July is typically hot, but this year it seems the summer has been hotter than ever. There are heat advisories almost every day, and the humidity is killer! Summer is almost over, but that does not mean we are getting rid of this hot weather. And what makes summer time everyone's favorite time? Ice cream! July is National Ice Cream Month, and this year July 23rd is National Ice Cream Day!
Lets talk about ice cream, and how it came to be!
Now, there is no way to know when someone in the world decided that cows milk (that's another story) would be better frozen, but based on writings and such we can guesstimate that our early presidents, such as George Washington, enjoyed ice cream, and once even paid $200 for some. Talk about an ice cream lover! You can find more information and fun facts on our past Presidents love for ice cream here https://nationaldaycalendar.com/national-ice-cream-month-july/.
There are THOUSANDS of different flavors of ice cream, and the toppings are endless! There are gluten free options, non-dairy options, sugar free options, and (if you're watching your waste line) many frozen yogurt flavors taste just as good as ice cream, but less sugar! Ice cream even leads us into milkshakes! And who doesn't love a chocolate milkshake on a hot summer night!
You can even make your own ice cream at home! There are simple recipes, like this one https://thestayathomechef.com/fast-homemade-ice-cream/. Or you can get really creative and go for ones similar to this, https://bakerbettie.com/how-to-make-homemade-ice-cream-video/.
No matter your favorite flavor or toppings, ice cream is loved by almost everyone!
